FlexiScale Storage

Just to update you on the issue with our Flexiscale storage last Friday.

We have carried out an intensive investigation and can confirm that the root cause was a hardware issue with our Netapp storage system which became unresponsive and caused a small number of customer servers to lose “sight” of their disks and go offline. This was resolved by using a live recovery function built in to our Software that allows servers to be migrated from 1 node to another, allowing us to resynchronise the nodes with the drives on the Netapp.

The Netapp is our current backend storage and this is the physical hardware where the “Virtual disks” for Flexiscale reside.

We are currently working with Netapp to ensure this does not happen again.

Although this hardware issue is resolved, we are still working to our planned strategy of bringing the Sun Amber road kit into production to replace the Netapp system currently in place. This is currently installed in our data centre and undergoing rigorous testing before being brought on line.

We are still continuing the live recovery process and are working with our storage provider Netapp to isolate at the root cause of the issue.

We are currently in the process of live recovery to bring up all servers.

We experienced a data disk access failure on the NetApp, this has led to an interpreted failure on the SCSI layer which has led to a dropping of the disks by the affected nodes.

This has resulted in a small number of unresponsive VM's.

We now have all disks back on line and have brought our spare nodes into production after a reboot to allow us to live migrate VM's from affected nodes to production nodes.

At 11:40 we experienced an issue with our backend storage on the FlexiScale platform.

We are currently receiving reports that a small number of customers are unable to connect to their servers.

We are working on resolving this and shall keep you updated.
